VARIABLE TUITION INFO Variable Tuition Appointments Why the Variable Tuition and Upfront Fees? Rooted in Our Faith: At the heart of our Catholic mission is the belief that every child deserves access to an education grounded in faith and academic excellence. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, this model reflects the values of equity, generosity, and stewardship, ensuring we embody the Light of Christ to all. Tailored Support: We recognize the dignity of all God’s children and understand that every family's financial situation is unique. With Variable Tuition, the tuition rate for each family is determined through a confidential process that respects individual circumstances and supports their ability to participate fully in our mission. Up Front Fees allow us to consider all costs to educate when supporting families, either through Variable tuition or their ability to budget for their family’s needs. Accessible Education: By removing barriers, we open our community to more families, enriching the shared experiences of all our students. This initiative aligns with our values of being warm, welcoming, and united with our Church and parish communities. How does it work? Enroll your children! We are so happy you are choosing Catholic education for your family. Many families will choose the full tuition rate. Families who would like to determine eligibility for Variable Tuition will complete a simple, secure financial application through FACTs, our enrollment and tuition partner. This will include tuition and a one-time fee that covers all programming previously charged at the beginning, or throughout, the school year. Based on the information provided, tuition will be adjusted to reflect what a family can reasonably afford. This process is private and handled with the utmost care to protect your confidentiality. VARIABLE TUITION INFO PRE-SCHOOL TUITION INFO Download Tuition Info Pre-School Tuition Info What is Variable Tuition? Variable Tuition adjusts the cost of education based on each family's unique financial situation. This program makes a Jackson Catholic Schools education accessible to families from all income levels, ensuring alignment with our core value to support all families seeking Catholic education. How does Variable Tuition work? Families submit an application through FACTs, a confidential third-party service that evaluates their financial situation, including factors like income, household size, other tuition obligations, debt, and outstanding circumstances. Based on this analysis, families are offered a tuition rate that fits their needs. The goal is to ensure every family has access to an excellent Catholic education, regardless of financial constraints. Who qualifies for Variable Tuition? Any family seeking to enroll their K - 12th grade child in Jackson Catholic Schools is encouraged to apply. Variable Tuition is designed to assist families across a range of financial situations, ensuring a warm and welcoming community for all who wish to join us in our mission. Pre-School Students enrolled in Catholic Schools are NOT eligible for Variable Tuition, as Diocese of Lansing policy requires pre-schools associated with parishes to be self-sustaining and not subsidized by the parish. However, Pre-School tuition is considered when looking at a family’s ability to pay tuition for other children enrolled in our schools, and is a significant consideration in those students’ variable tuition rate. Does applying for Variable Tuition affect admission decisions? No. Admission to Jackson Catholic Schools and Variable Tuition decisions are made independently. All students are evaluated based on their fit with our mission. How do I apply for Variable Tuition? Families complete a secure financial profile through our third-party partner, FACTs, which is now a single-site product for our Student Information Systems, Tuition and Billing, and Variable Tuition process. The application link can be found on each schools’ website. Information sessions and individual support sessions are available for families. Applications are reviewed confidentially, and families who apply by the March 3 deadline are notified of their tuition rate for 2025-2026 by May 15, 2025. What factors are considered in determining Variable Tuition? The third-party service considers a variety of factors, including income, family size, expenses, and other financial obligations, to determine a fair and customized tuition rate. Do I need to apply for Variable Tuition every year? Yes. Because family financial situations can change, Variable Tuition applications must be submitted annually. This ensures tuition rates remain fair and accurate for all families. Are all families required to participate in the Variable Tuition program? No. Families who do not wish to apply for Variable Tuition will pay the full tuition rate. Is there a fee to apply for Variable Tuition? No. We are committed to all families receiving a rate reflective of their unique situation, and want to make the application process easy and accessible. What if our family’s financial situation changes mid-year? Jackson Catholic Schools are committed to supporting families during challenging times. If your financial situation changes significantly, please contact the admissions office to discuss possible adjustments. Are there other discounts in addition to the Variable Tuition Rate? There are several options for families to further support their tuition. Outside scholarship: Some organizations, like the Ken Dillon Memorial Scholarship, offer additional support for Catholic school tuition. Those scholarships are generally advertised when available by our schools. DOL Grant and Aid: The Diocese of Lansing has a robust grant and aid program, providing support to Catholic families in the Diocese. Families are automatically eligible for these grants by completing the Variable Tuition Application by March 1. TRIP: Many families use the Tuition Reduction Incentive Program to off-set the cost of tuition. More information can be found in your school’s main office. Families can receive a 2% “paid in full” discount by paying their entire full or Variable tuition by July 1, 2025. The Variable Tuition option replaces any multi-child discount. This reflects that the cost to educate each child is the same, regardless of family size, while reflecting our desire to have Catholic education available to all families. Family size is a consideration in the Variable Tuition application. How can I learn more about Variable Tuition? - Mission & History | St. John's
MISSION & VISION The mission of Jackson Catholic Schools is to joyfully cultivate God’s goodness, beauty, and truth. Through our Catholic faith, we share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, grow in virtue and intellect, and form our students to lead and serve our communities as saints. Guided by our Catholic tradition, we provide the highest quality education and empower students to excel spiritually, intellectually and emotionally. We inspire them to reach their full potential and be the Light of Christ in this life and for eternity. Through a well-rounded curriculum integrated with the message of Jesus Christ, St. John School strives to develop Christian people who will use their unique talents and gifts to recognize God’s goodness, experience the family that is our parish, and seek justice in the world, affirming the presence of Christ in all people. History St. John Parish has a rich and storied history that dates back to 1836 when 14 Catholic families came together to construct a log church on the grounds that would later become Francis Street. Initially, St. John's functioned as a mission church until 1855, when Fr. B.C. Koopmans assumed the role of its first pastor, although he did not reside within the parish. The educational legacy of St. John's Parish began to take shape on September 15, 1873, with the establishment of its first school. On that momentous day, four dedicated sisters welcomed 200 eager students through its doors. In 1888, the parish expanded its educational offerings to include a high school, marking a significant milestone. The very first graduating class, consisting of three young women, proudly received their diplomas in 1892. As the years passed, St. John School continued to grow and evolve. In 1901, a new school building was inaugurated, with its cornerstone being laid as a symbol of progress. On January 19, 1903, this new school opened its doors to an excited student body. Notably, during the mid-twenties, tuition for the grade school was a mere $1.00 per month, while high school tuition was $25.00 per year. These fees were reflective of a time when the average income was $2,196.00, and gasoline was a mere ¢11 per gallon. In 1929, a significant change took place as uniforms were adopted, particularly for the high school students. This decision was made with the belief that uniforms would enhance punctuality, concentration in class, and social relationships among the students. Each class was further distinguished by different colored collars: freshmen wore pea green, sophomores donned royal blue, juniors sported cerise, and seniors proudly displayed sand-colored collars. In the mid-20th century, St. John Parish embarked on a new chapter with the groundbreaking of a "new" high school on Cooper Street in 1954. This modern facility officially opened its doors to students in 1955, marking a significant leap forward in the parish's commitment to education. In 1959, the high school expanded further with the addition of fifteen classrooms, which would eventually become the present-day St. John Elementary School, solidifying the parish's dedication to providing quality education for the community.
