    Get Involved Parents Get Involved We could not be where we are without the amazing support of our parents and volunteers. At St. John's, we encourage everyone to get involved in their child’s school programs. We offer a wide selection of volunteer opportunities and parent organizations. Virtus Virtus - Protecting God's Children The Diocese of Lansing mandates all school employees and volunteers who come into contact with students to go through Protecting God’s Children training. The Diocese recognizes this program as the most up-to-date, comprehensive safe environments program available today. This can be done online or at a live training. To complete the training online visit http://www.virtusonline.org . Once your training is complete, please print your certificate and send in to the school office. All volunteers must also sign a contract known as the “Volunteer’s Code of Conduct” Learn More Parent & Teacher Organization The PTO is a group of parents committed to enhancing St. John's School. Through fundraising efforts, the PTO helps purchase some of the ‘extras’ for the school, provides networking for St. John's families and appreciation for students and staff. This group has monthly, evening meetings during the school year. To learn more about PTO click HERE . Uniforms Dress Code While in school the students need to be focused on their job of learning. Uniforms help that focus by eliminating distractions and competition. This group meets monthly during the school day for fellowship, to work on projects and to help in the classrooms.     Tuition Reduction Incentive Program T.R.I.P What Is T.R.I.P? T.R.I.P. is a great way to reduce your tuition bill by doing your everyday shopping. T.R.I.P is issued in the form of gift cards that can be used just like cash to purchase everyday essentials like food, clothing or gas. All families are encouraged and welcome to participate in T.R.I.P. Getting Started During the school year, TRIP cards are available in the Lumen Christi Main Office from 7:30 to 3:30 Monday through Thursday.     AT A GLANCE St. John School is accreditedby the Michigan Association of Nonpublic Schools. Our curriculum and standards are developed by educators and faith leaders in the Diocese of Lansing. Core Classes - Religion, Math, Science, English, History Special Classes: Music, Art, Technology, STEM, Physical Education, Spanish Additional Services: Full time reading specialist, Title One math and reading support, ISD Support - Speech Therapy, Occupational therapy, Teacher consultant St. John emphasizes the importance of safety. Improvements are made each year ranging f rom boot systems to prevent people outside of a classroom from entering in an emergency situation to bulletproof 3M film on windows and doors. Creating disciples is a core aspect of our behavior and discipline. Students are taught the Catholic virtues and encouraged to recognize the virtues they are excelling in and how they can improve on others when a discipline situation arises. Parent partnerships to help students grow and learn is important. Faith is core to who we are at St. John the Evangelist School.We honor the person God has created and celebrate our faith through weekly mass, monthly adoration, daily prayer, service, retreats, and more. A strong partnership between our school and parish is important.Our families attend mass, students in grades 4 and up serve at mass, there is a partnership between the school and parish preparing for sacraments, and level 1 and level 2 Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for preschool through 1st grade. Before and after care are available in our latchkey program. Beginning as early as 7am, students may participate in games, puzzles, service projects, and prayer before school. Following school, students have a snack, play games, complete homework, and more until 6pm. Extracurricular activities range from sports through the Jackson Catholic School System to scouting opportunities and more. As the oldest school in Jackson, generations of families have passed through our doors making the family center to our mission.     Parent & Teacher Organization The Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) at St. John’s is comprised of dedicated parents committed to enhancing the overall experience at St. John’s School. We encourage your attendance at our meetings, which are held on the second Tuesday of each month starting at 5:30 pm, lasting approximately 45-60 minutes. A Zoom option will also be provided for those who prefer to attend virtually. We are mindful of everyone's time commitments and strive to keep our meetings to a minimum whenever possible. We regularly communicate via email and Facebook, ensuring families remain informed of ongoing activities. The PTO functions as the school's ambassadors to new students and their families by addressing any questions they may have about St. John’s. Additionally, we organize various fundraising events throughout the year, including the popular Secret Santa event in December, which allows students to purchase gifts for their families during the Christmas season. Through our fundraising initiatives, we contribute to acquiring additional resources for the school, facilitate fellowship and networking opportunities for St. John’s families, and express our appreciation for the teachers and staff through grants and other teacher-related requests/needs.
